A few weeks ago a cousin passed down a piece of furniture for my daughter to enjoy as she grows up. It’s a little old ice cream parlor style table and chairs. When I got it, let’s just say it took a while to come up with some inspiration. My cousin that had been using it has long outgrown it. It had been sitting in a garage collecting dust and rust. This table’s grandchildren are practically antiques…let’s just put it that way.

So it sat, and it sat, while I tried to think of the best way to modernize it. My sister is obsessed with chalkboard paint, so the first thing we decided was that the metal tabletop, would obviously be painted as a chalkboard. This will also provide endless hours of entertainment for Lilly. Now all I had to decide was what color to do the base and the chairs. Some people thought I should do each chair a different color, some thought I should do ice cream parlor baby pink. Ultimately I decided on a blue-green and we went at it! Here are my before, middle, and after pictures:

How to: First I sand papered everything. This was by far my most hated part of the whole process. Then once everything was sanded, we painted each piece separately with several coats of spray paint in our color of choice. We had detached the table top from the base, and put about 3 coats of chalkboard paint on that. Once everything was dry, we used a clear glossy sealer and sprayed that onto the chairs and base to give them a nice finish. Attach the table top once that’s dry, and voila! It was seriously too easy.

Next weekend I’m making the big move. The move from crib, to bed for Lilly.  When I first sleep trained Lilly it was by the ever-controversial FERBER method, so I need to do some reading about the best ways to make this transition easiest on the both of us. I am WELL AWARE there will be several, SEVERAL sleepless nights ahead for me. I’m so excited for her to have a big girl room. I know she’ll love it too. What are some of the things that worked best for you? Any tips or suggestions?

FMM: Before Photos

 

  1. Are you on a weight-loss journey?  Have you lost weight in the past? Are you trying to lose it now? Yes I sure am. I’m not so concerned with the actual number on the scale, I just want to look and feel my best.
  2. Do you like being in pictures, or do you shy away from the camera? I love the idea of being in pictures…I just want to get to the point where I’m not worried about a double chin, or a roll, etc..ya know?
  3. Does looking at old photos of yourself motivate you? Yes!
  4. Weight-loss bloggers, do you post progress pictures on your blog? No, but I am thinking I should start
  5. Will you share a before photo with us (even if you don’t have an after yet?)  I don’t really have a before photo, but here is a photo from February 11th, 2012. It’s the most recent. The shirt I’m wearing under my blazer is kinda makin’ me look preggo in this picture, but I promise that’s not the case! It’s an illusion – like Beyoncé’s mysterious, disappearing baby bump. 

My jeans look baggy and my white blazer fits perfectly!

2 Months & A Thank You

Today my blog is 2 months old

I’m down a pants size

This is my 100th post

I completed a 5k

And I’ve registered for several more

I would have lost motivation long ago

if it wasn’t for all of my readers/followers.

They tried to make me go to rehab

But I said no, no, no.  I should go, really.  I was hoping there would be some great easy trick to curve my sweet tooth, but there isn’t.  I’m quitting.  Cold turkey.  I hope Diet Coke doesn’t count.  Can somebody let me know if it does?  I suppose I could quit that today too, right after I finish the one I’m enjoying right now.  This is going to be so effing hard.  I sit in a cubicle for 10 hours a day.  There are cookies and candies and treats(oh my!), everywhere.  I’m sending an email out to my team to keep them away from me.  Hopefully, they’ll be able to maintain a safe distance.  Yesterday, there were chocolate covered cherries within a 10 foot radius of my desk, and I ate one.  I don’t even like those.  EYE OPENER!  Did I seriously eat a sweet that I don’t even like, just to have a sweet?  What…the Hell?

My awesome neighbor and weight loss buddy/accountability partner is starting with a personal trainer today.  She can afford one, unlike moi.  She’s going to teach me all the good stuff that she’s paying the big bucks to learn, and then she will be like my personal trainer!  Brilliant.  I love BOGO deals.  That’s practically BOGO, if you think about it.

She’s going to write a post either tonight, maybe tomorrow, or possibly Wednesday, whenever she has time, to let us know how it went and stuff.  I can’t wait to read it.  I’m also looking forward to the gym tonight.  I wish this body transformation went by faster.  Hoping to see some results soon :)

An order of dumbbells with a steroid shot on the side, please

Blaine and I determined that it has been at least a year since either of us stepped foot inside any kind of a gym.  Tonight in an effort to put off doing laundry, we laced up our running shoes and decided to check out the fitness facilities here in our building.  Not much to brag about, not a ton of equipment, and not much to do in there, but we figured there was more excercize equipment in there, than in our condos so we decided to give the machines a try.  I called dibs on the elliptical cause it looked way more fun than the treadmill, and we decided to set a timer for 10 minutes and then we’d trade.  After the both of us had been going for roughly 5 minutes, we decided the burn was too strong.  We set our sights on the dumbbells, they looked like a pretty good time.  I picked up the lightest ones, not wanting to pull a muscle or strain an arm,  seeing as I already lug around a 27lb toddler everyday.  She can walk, but she def can’t keep up yet, so I usually just pick her up if I’m in a hurry.  Once we had our dumbbells in hand, we realized we had no idea what to do with them. I remembered a few routines from back when I had a personal trainer a few years ago, but other than that we just made it up as we went and laughed at ourselves in the mirror.  As I stared at myself, I told Blaine we should invent a piece of exercise equipment that works out double chins.  Seriously guys, why has nobody thought of that?  Go ahead, steal my idea and make one! I’ll totally buy it.  Cause I have a life.  A busy one. And don’t have time to create such fiiiine pieces of machinery.  Thank you.   So about that steroid injection, the guy in the fitness room with us may have had a few too many.  Every time he did a chest press I thought his bacne might explode.  I kept my distance.  He was grunting uncontrollably!  It was super awkward.  I thought about asking him if he could show us some good simple excercise, but then I realized he had turned up the music on his iPhone and had put in his ear buds.  Probably to drown out our laughter, and the country music we turned on when we realized their was a radio.  Oh, and for those of you OBSESSED with pinterest, Blaine even whipped her iPhone out at one point so we could look at thinspiration and good workout techniques.  It was awesome.  Day 1 at the gym, success.  Fooling around down there not only made us laugh, but it got us active, which is a lot better than what we would have been doing at home on our couches, and it also put off laundry for a while.  I’ll call that a win-win, and you can call it whatever you want!

Side note: Sorry this post doesn’t include pictures.  It’s for your health and well being.  NOBODY, should have to see us in the gym. Really, we did you a favor this time.
