37 Days

Until my first 5k! I still haven’t figured out all the logistics that are involved in making it happen, but I’ll get there – eventually.  I know a lot of my followers are avid runners, so what are some tips you can give me to help prepare physically, and mentally for this giant accomplishment in my life?  I know a 5k is probably nothin’ to most of you, but I can not tell you how much I appreciate all my little cheerleaders, aka YOU!

  1. Good job! I gotta say, on the race day, don’t underestimate the power of adrenaline! It will push you through it, along with the excitement from the crowd! The running community is so awesome and supportive. I do 3 kinds of runs- time trials, distance runs, and speedwork. They all help me become a better runner, and so does strength training!

  2. Intervals, intervals, intervals and hill training was what helped me out.
I would also recommend drin getting to know the route you are going to run. I do a practice run for all my 5K’s and 10K’s. Heck! you don’t have to run the whole thing on your practice run. It helped me because I got to see the tough areas and the terrain. I knew when to push myself and when to relax for a bit. Good luck! :)

  3. Just keep slowly adding time and mileage to your runs. Be excited for every extra minute you are able to keep going! Don’t think about how long it will take you to finish, just revel in the fact that you will finish!! Think to yourself, “this is so exciting and so easy for me right now” as you are running and run with a smile! When it is hard for me, I try to just smile, and pretend it is easy and that I am so excited that I am not struggling ;) You will do fantastic!!!
